New Television Programs Spotlight Louisville’s Growing Medical and Bioscience Industries
A new opportunity is coming to spotlight Louisville’s expansive medical and bioscience industries, health care service providers, and the community’s and the University of Louisville’s internationally recognized unique medical research projects and clinical trials.
Jean West, Emmy award-winning anchor and medical science reporter, formerly with WHAS-TV, will return to local television with two new medical programs starting in August.
Jean West’s Medical Daily and Jean West’s Medical Digest will be broadcast on The CW Louisville, WBKI-TV and LouisvilleNetwork, WYCS-TV, with West as anchor, co-producer, and co-owner of the programs.
Jean West’s Medical Daily, with 2-3 minute segments, will appear daily inside WBKI-TV’s “The CW Louisville Live This Morning” show at 9:30am. Each segment will feature topical medical and health information. Once a week, West will appear live with an extended segment featuring interviews and viewer phone calls.
Jean West’s Medical Digest will be a weekly half hour that airs Sunday night at 10:30pm, immediately following the WHAS 11 News at Ten on The CW Louisville. The program, with West as host, will feature advances in health care, interviews, news, guests, and viewer interaction as well as practical advice focused on local health and wellness issues.
Each program will have several encore broadcasts on both stations. The programs will be produced at the WBKI-TV facility off Blankenbaker Lane.
“WBKI-TV reaches more viewers in more areas of the state than any other broadcast or cable distribution platform, and we’re proud to be the flagship home for this important local venture,” said Carol Lafever, Chief Operating Officer of WBKI SLG, LLC.
West and her partner in the venture, Bernie Rosenthal, have formed Faces West Productions to produce and distribute medical news programs. Rosenthal is former business manager of WHAS-TV. He has a long-term involvement in Louisville and international broadcasting and media.
“I’m excited about offering a new model of medical, health and science information to the people of Louisville and to spotlight national attention on our community’s health-related businesses and achievements,” West said. “It’s also an opportunity to empower people with the knowledge and the tools to take charge of their own health while focusing on local services.”
Dan Spangler, Regional Stations Manager of The CW Louisville, said “We’re also exited to offer Jean’s reports on demand at jeanwestmedicaldaily.com, where visitors to the sight will be able to read about breaking health news, comment on stories and share ideas with Jean via her interactive blog.”
At WHAS-TV for 22 years, West was awarded a regional Emmy for her “Jean West’s Medical Breakthroughs” daily reports and prime time specials, and for her exclusive coverage of the first and only U.S. hand transplants as well as the first two generations of the artificial heart implants.
